Private Rescue Vessels

Private Rescue Vessels

For many years the Private Rescue Vessel fleet (or PRV’s) has been the cornerstone of the Coastguard service. Private individuals offer their own family boats and participate in training and rostered duties.
Why would anyone do this? They all share a dedication to boating; a desire to put something back into the community; an affinity with the sea. But there is also thrill, excitement, sometimes danger, often challenge, and almost always hugely significant reward.
The reward may come from saving someone’s life. It may come from the mastery over the magnificent forces of Nature that the Sea can throw our way. It may come from a simple knowledge that with each rescue, we learn something new about ourselves, and the ways in which we work with others to get the very best outcome for all concerned. Or it may come from the enduring friendships that are made amongst like-minded people.
For whatever reason these Coastguard Skippers are on the water, you can depend upon them to provide friendly sound advice, and to get you and your boat home as safely as is possible.
You will recognise them by the Coastguard banner they carry when on duty. Give them a wave when you next see them out on the water.
