There is no compulsory pleasure boat registration required in New Zealand. The best way to avoid future compulsory registration is to educate yourself and join the organisations that already exist to help you enjoy your time on the water. If you have a sail boat, we strongly recommend that you have a sail number registered with Yachting NZ. Both sail and power ensure you have at least the minimum safety equipment and have a VHF radio with a call sign and JOIN Coastguard.
