History
Auckland Coastguard Incorporated was formed in December 2003 after the requirement for a regional body saw the splitting up of what was the Auckland Volunteer Coastguard Service into an administration arm (Coastguard Northern Region) and a Rescue Vessel section (Auckland Coastguard Inc).
Auckland Coastguard has a heritage that dates back to 1940. We are based at the Auckland Marine Rescue Centre in Mechanics Bay on Auckland’s waterfront. We share this facility with Coastguard Northern Region, Surf Lifesaving Northern Region, Maritime Police and the Auckland Harbour Master.
We are currently operated by a team in excess of 130 dedicated volunteers whose mission is
“To assure safety of life on the Hauraki Gulf through unsurpassed on water services”
and lives by the principle of
“Facta non Verba”
(Deeds not Words)
Auckland Coastguard operates 3 dedicated rescue vessels, 4 privately owned rescue vessels and 13 auxiliary (non-rostered) rescue vessels also privately owned.
Auckland Coastguard as with all Coastguard units relies on the support of sponsors and members to keep our operation going.
