Auckland Marine Rescue Centre
Auckland Coastguard operates from the Marine Rescue Centre at Mechanics Bay in Central Auckland. Sited in an ideal location to keep watch over boating activities in the Auckland Harbour, the Marine Rescue Centre was built with a donation from the now disbanded Auckland Harbour Board, as a rescue centre for the people of Auckland.
In 1991 the Auckland Volunteer Coastguard Service and the Auckland Surf Lifesaving Association took possession and still undertake their operations from here.
This superb facility now houses Coastguard Northern Region, Surf Life Saving Northern Region, Auckland Coastguard Inc, the Police Maritime Unit and the ARC Harbourmaster. The centre is surrounded on its seaward side by a secure marina which houses Auckland Coastguard’s Rescue Vessels, Police and Harbourmaster Vessels.
